Overview
Die design and fabrication is a critical upstream process that directly determines the quality, consistency and cost of every casting produced. Mehtex manages die making entirely in-house — giving us full control over lead times, design changes and die maintenance — a significant advantage over manufacturers that rely on third-party die suppliers.
- Step 1 — Design & SimulationCustomer drawings are reviewed in detail and a 3D model is prepared and shared for customer approval before fabrication begins. We use Magma simulation software to analyse mould filling, solidification patterns and potential defect areas — minimising risk before any metal is cut.
- Step 2 — PrototypingFor new or complex components, polymer prototypes are produced to validate parting lines, draft angles and core placements. 3D printing is also leveraged (outsourced) for rapid physical validation.
- Step 3 — Die FabricationOnce the design is approved, die components are machined and ground on our in-house Vertical Turning Centres and workshop machines. Our die tool room is equipped with 3 Vertical Turning Centres.
- Step 4 — Trial & ApprovalTrials are conducted, samples submitted to the customer for approval, and any modifications incorporated before full production release.
